When it comes to the traditional Saturday Salmon BBQ and Bonfire, time has a way of changing certain aspects while leaving others intact. What started out as a “legendary” weenie roast evolved into a salmon barbecue thanks to the dedication of Andy Johnson and Scott Stamnes. This pair of snowboarder fisherman wanted to honor their fallen friend Teal Copeland, who, as a Baker and Alaskan local, thrived off snow and salmon. The BBQ recently left the parking lot, a scene that saw many wild nights, in exchange for the atmosphere of the Raven Hut Lodge. Now the fire burns deep in the heart of the ski area. Music and excited voices echo up the canyon’s walls. We may have our boots on a little bit longer than in the past, but here is where we recharge ourselves surrounded by snowy mountains, friends old and new old, and feast on more than just the delicious salmon.
